31 Days of Date Nights {Day 23} Festivals

Welcome to 31 Days of Date Nights. My plan is to give you a simple date night idea, (mostly frugal ones) every day for the month of October.   You can access all posts in this series here.

There are all kinds of free festivals.  We’ve gone  to a hot air balloon festival in the past. Entrance is free.  You could spend money on concessions, but we never do.

The city I grew up in had two big festivals each year with food and booths and music.  Again, entrance was free and if you just window shopped, you didn’t have to spend a dime!

This month we went to a free harvest festival.  It was just down the street from our house, but neither of us had any idea that this place we passed on a regular basis was actually a historical site.

We got to tour old houses and it was really neat to learn about what showed signs of wealth way back when.

Sea shells – to show you traveled

Wall paper on the ceiling (though it never seemed to match the wall paper on the walls…)

Coal heating stoves in bedrooms (didn’t take a picture of that).

We were told that they purposely made mistakes in their work to show that only God was perfect…Do you see the imperfection in the below picture?

We also got to see a blacksmith making coat hangers with little hearts on the end, kids making homemade apple cider, animals and we went inside the general store.

It turns out a family from our church volunteers at this site!  Which we didn’t find out until we ran into the members individually at different locations at the festival.

It was a pretty fun outing, and you can’t beat the price. Free!
