Welcome to 31 Days of Date Nights. My plan is to give you a simple date night idea, (mostly frugal ones) every day for the month of October. You can access all posts in this series here.
We don’t own many games, but the few that we have are some of our favorites. Boggle anyone??? DH loves this game. But, we have a twist on the way we play it. We don’t count any words that are under 5 letters. Is it harder to play this way? Absolutely. But we think it’s more fun and challenging.
Another favorite is Catch Phrase. Which we got as a wedding gift. We usually play it just the two of us, even though it’s designed to be played in teams. The entire time you are playing, this electronic toy is beeping. When we took a childbirth preparation class a couple of years ago, we were instructed to bring something we were going to use during labor to distract us to the second class. We missed the second class because we were sick. But, we went to a make up class. And we brought Catch Phrase. I was digging around in my bag, looking for a banana and I accidentally turned on the Catch Phrase game! The beeping is kind of loud, so people were wondering what on earth was going on. Later DH told me he thought the girl next to him thought it was a timer on a bomb!
If you don’t have any board games at home, there’s always the Internet. DH and I used to put our laptops on the kitchen table and play one another in online card games. For example, Slap jack and Uno.
Here’s a game you can play that benefits others (and you only need one computer to play). Free Rice. You are shown multiple choice answers for vocabulary words. You choose which definition you think is right. And for every correct answer, 10 grains of rice is donated to help end hunger. DH and I sit side by side and go over each word, say which answer we think is correct (which often isn’t the same one) and then select an answer and see if we were right.
