31 Days of Date Nights {Day 6} Home Movie Night

Welcome to 31 Days of Date Nights. My plan is to give you a simple date night idea, (mostly frugal ones) every day for the month of October.   You can access all posts in this series here.

We rarely go out to the movies.  Number one, they are too expensive.  Number two, it requires having a baby sitter.  Number three, I’m not a big fan of most of the movies that are out there these days.

So, we pretty much only watch animated kids movies, at home!  I’m fortunate (as my Mom pointed out) that my husband is willing to watch such movies with me.

We typically only watch movies that we get for free.  If you sign up for Redbox text alerts, they will text you a code for a free movie rental each month. (To get text alerts, text the word REDBOX to 727272 (only available on participating carriers, message and data rates may apply, and you can always text STOP to quit).

You must get your movie on the day you receive the promo code (it used to be the first Monday of each month for us, but last month, it was the first day of the month) and if it’s not returned by 9:00pm the following night, you will be charged the nightly fee, plus tax, every night until you return it.  (I believe the fee is $1.00/night where we live).  But, you can return the movies to any Redbox location so it’s never a big deal for us to return the movie on time the following day.

On the rare occasion that we do venture out to a movie theater, we don’t buy snacks there, because again, they are pricey.  So, when we have movie night at home, I sometimes make popcorn or kettle corn to make it an extra special event.

DD goes to bed at 7pm, so as soon as she’s asleep, we pop in a movie and have our date night at home.

Reader Nessa mentioned free outdoor movies and bringing a picnic dinner along.  I love that idea!  Our city offers these outings, but we have yet to take advantage of one.  Maybe next summer.

  1. I’m so happy you put the book on hold at your library about the great outdoors! Please keep reading my posts too about it- today’s article you will both love and hate- lol but, it will show you that you don’t have to go far for some outdoor adventure- you can start right at home (baby steps) 🙂
